What is the typical cost of repairing a transmission?
A: There isn't a real typical repair cost for getting a transmission repair. There are too many variables between transmission units and depends on how complex of the transmission design is. Often there is a lot of misconception between repairing an auto transmission and rebuilding an auto transmission. An auto transmission rebuild involves removing the unit, and a complete disassembly, replacing all the seals and the gaskets, replace the damaged bearings gears or drums, rebuilding or replacing the valve body, rebuilding any worn clutch packs, replacing the transmission solenoid packs as needed, fill with new transmission fluid(8 to 16 qts.), installing a reconditioned torque converter. Also make any factory suggested updates. There isn't anything typical about a transmission “repair”. A transmission repair may be as simple as replacing a external speed sensor and a transmission fluid service at a much lower price than getting a complete transmission rebuild.
